association between visual evoked potential and disease severity, disease duration and visual hallucination in patients with idiopathic parkinsonism

چکیده
background: parkinson's disease (pd) is a neurodegenerative disorder impairing motor, verbal and other abilities. visual evoked potential (vep) assessment is a useful method for analysis of visual system and its function. the present study was designed in order to evaluate whether vep changes are associated with pd. m aterials and methods: in the present study, 100 subjects encompassing 40 patients with idiopathic parkinson’s disease (idiopathic pd) and 60 aged-matched controls were selected and assigned into case and control groups, respectively. vep analysis was conducted in either group and the results were compared. r es ults: in the present study, 16 patients (40%) showed prolonged p100 latency. p100 latency in the case group was significantly longer than in controls. p100 amplitude was significantly higher in case group than control. there were no significant association between prolonged vep and sex and diseases duration, in the participants. also from our participants who suffer from visual hallucination, p100 latency was significantly longer than in the controls. there was a significant association between prolonged p100 latency and severity of disease in the case group. c onclusion: we suggest that prolonged vep latencies and amplitude are associated with pd and might be associated with a predisposition for visual hallucinations.

Correlation between Acoustic Parameters and Disease Severity and Duration in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis
Background: Since in multiple sclerosis (MS), changes in speech and voice quality often precede other signs and symptoms; early diagnosis of these changes is necessary. In this study, an acoustic examination of phonation subsystem was performed. Due to the progressive nature of multiple sclerosis, the aim of this study was to examine the correlation between acoustic parameters ...
متن کاملAbnormalitites of Visual Evoked Potential in Migraine Patients
Background: Visual evoked potential (VEP) is regarded as a useful, reliable and non-invasive technique for the diagnosis of lesions in the optic pathway. This technique was used to investigate visual function in migraine. Materials and Methods: 53 migraine patients (27 migraine cases with aura and 26 common migraine cases) and 55 controls were prospectively enrolled in this study. Visual ev...

Relation between Voice Handicap Index (VHI) and disease severity in Iranian patients with Parkinson’s disease
Background: One third of patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) have mentioned “dysphonia” as their most debilitating communication deficit. Patient-based measurements, such as Voice Handicap Index (VHI) add necessary supplementary information to clinical and physiological assessment. There are a few studies about relation between VHI and disease severity in PD, although none of them showed an...
متن کاملEvent-Related Potentials in Parkinson's Disease Patients with Visual Hallucination
Using neuropsychological investigation and visual event-related potentials (ERPs), we aimed to compare the ERPs and cognitive function of nondemented Parkinson's disease (PD) patients with and without visual hallucinations (VHs) and of control subjects. We recruited 12 PD patients with VHs (PD-H), 23 PD patients without VHs (PD-NH), and 18 age-matched controls. All subjects underwent comprehens...
